Oranges in the Calles

It’s that time of year again. Many of the streets in the inner city of Tarija are lined with orange trees; and they are laden with ripe oranges at the moment.

They progressively drop their fruit and you will often see people picking them up to take home. They are not so good for eating, but excellent for fresh juice.

So apart from adorning the Calles with beauty they have a practical use as well.

The orange trees add to the city’s reputation of the Andalucía of South America, a region known for its beautiful weather, friendly people and colonial history. They are just another charm of Tarija that makes it unique and a special place to live or visit.
